We asked. You responded. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that the judges had a very difficult time narrowing it down to just one winner. After much consideration, we shortlisted the recipes down to the top five submissions, tested them in TigerChef’s very own kitchen, and gave them back to our panel of judges for tasting.
Congratulations to our winner Lindsay S. on her winning recipe- Banana Cheesecake.
3rd place – Beef Brisket
Submitted by: Kay G.
This recipe is one of my family’s favorite. Our favorite way to cook is using a Texas beef rub but we also like the soup as well. It is a no brainer and easy to put in oven and get other things done while cooking. it can be frozen or cooked ahead of time and re-heated quickly but do not overcook when re-heating. Very tasty with a good potato or sweet potato side dish and green veggie.
1 3/12 to 71/2 pound beef brisket
1 envelope Lipton Onion soup mix
Dry the brisket with paper towel to absorb the moisture. Using a shallow roasting pan big enough for the brisket to lie flat, place 3 long pieces of heavy duty foil in the pan. Place brisket, fat side up, on the foil, and sprinkle the soup mixture over the entire brisket. Wrap the brisket with one layer of the foil at a time. Be sure each foil layer is wrapped tightly on the brisket to keep juices inside. Bake 8 hours at 225 degrees. Let cool a little before cutting across the grain into thin slices for serving.
Other suggestions for the brisket:
Use any good quality seasoning rub for beef or a favorite rub of yours. If you use a rub, the rub needs to be spread generously on both sides of the brisket and cooked with fat side up. Bake 8 hours at 225 degrees.
Barbeque Sauce for Beef:
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup Bennett’s chili sauce
Worcestershire sauce, to taste
5 tablespoons vinegar or garlic wine vinegar
1/4 stick butter or margarine
2 small cloves garlic
- Peel and chop garlic. Sauté in butter or margarine.
- Add remaining ingredients and simmer to blend.
Makes about a pint of sauce.
This sauce is good with the beef brisket that has a rub on it.
