Breakfast Benefits

September 6, 2010 12:00 PM

Eating breakfast yields huge returns. Although we’ve heard this time and again, a vast majority of the population still opt to skip this most important meal of the day, using “no time”, or “on a diet” as an excuse. It has been repeatedly proven that the benefits of eating a good, healthy, well-balanced breakfast outweigh the cons 100 to none.

Concentration & Energy: Eating breakfast has been proven to help children, adolescente and yes, even adults, stay focused, have higher energy levels and better memorizing skills, which translats into better grades for students and higher performance levels for both children and adults. Some researchers add that breakfast helps keep our emotions well balanced, thus contributing to our mental stability.

Diet: Skipping breakfast because “I’m on a diet” is actually quite counter productive. The fact of the matter is that when your body is deprived of breakfast, your metabolism will slow down in order to protect your body from starvation by storing the energy resources it has available. Due to the fact that breakfast is the first meal of the day, starting your day with a well-balanced meal will actually kick-start your metabolism and get it running for the day. It has also been proven that those that eat breakfast tend to consume fewer calories through-out the day.

Cholesterol: Breakfast foods such as oatmeal, bran, and fruits contain a high source of fiber which has been proven to lower bad cholesterol levels, thus reducing the possibility of heart complications.

Alright, so now we know a few of the pros. However, there are still only 24 hours in a day, and your schedule didn’t change. You have no time to sit down to a meal. That’s what smoothies are all about.

Sorry folks. Absolutely no excuse!
