Peanut Butter- Not Just a Spread

January 4, 2010 1:00 PM

Most of us use peanut butter as a spread for a good, yet nutritious, sandwich to take along to work or school. Well, guess what! There is way more to peanut butter then you think. This delicious spread can be the solution to many ‘natural’ home disasters …

Scenario #1: You’re relaxing on the couch when you notice a piece of chewed-up gum in your child’s hair. Your instinctive reaction is panic! Then you remember that once upon a time ago you read something about peanut butter and chewing gum. You make a mad dash for the peanut butter, apply it to the mess and ‘massage’ the gum for a few minutes. Your child’s hair now smells like one big peanut butter sandwich, but you don’t mind since you didn’t have to cut the locks to get the gum out. peanut-butter-uses

Scenario #2:  Your dog is sick and has to take some medication. You’re at your wits' end at trying to get the dog to take the pill. Here’s a little secret. Most dogs are very fond of peanut butter. Hide the pill in a spoonful of peanut butter and let the dog have a special treat.  The peanut butter will also make the dogs teeth and bones stronger.

Scenario #3: You finished frying fish but now the house reeks from fish. All you have to do to eliminate the smell is fry some peanut butter in the frying pan for about a minute or two. The peanut butter absorbs the fish odor. True, your house now smells like peanut butter, but I don’t believe there is anybody who prefers the smell of fish over peanut butter.

Scenario #4:  You’re running late to a party and are about to wrap up the gift when you notice (phew!) that you left the price sticker on the gift. You pull off the sticker but are now left with that aggravating sticky paste where the sticker was. Well, all you have to do is grab some peanut butter, rub it over the goo and voila! You’re present is ready to be wrapped.

Scenario #5:  You have guest over and bite your tongue not to say anything about the brownie cake crumbs peanut-butter-usesthat you found in the room that everybody knows is off limits. Later on in the day, just as you’re running out, you spot something out of the corner of your eye running across your floor. A mouse!! Boy are you glad that you choose to bite your tongue. Time to show the mouse who is boss. Place mouse traps around the house, but first place some peanut butter, not cheese, to them. The mouse won’t be able to refuse the peanut butter. Be sure to lay the peanut butter where the mice can’t get to it without tripping the trap.

There are many more ideas for which peanut butter can be a great help such as stopping an ice cream cone from leaking, shaving, cleaning, lubricating tools, baking and more. Keeping a jar of peanut butter in your house is a grand idea since one can never imagine what scenario might be waiting for you- if only you had some peanut butter handy!
