Peppermint Hot Chocolate

November 25, 2011 10:00 AM

December 25. Stay warm while sitting around with your family, opening presents from under the Christmas tree. What better way to start Christmas day than with a nice warm cup of peppermint hot chocolate. ‘Tis the season!

Ingredients:

1 cup dessert topping, chilled
1 teaspoon plus 2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups milk
½ cup chocolate chips
¼ cup crushed peppermint sticks

Directions:

Whip up ½ cup topping, gradually adding 1 teaspoon sugar until soft peaks form. Cover and chill.

Combine remaining topping and sugar with milk into a saucepan, heat over medium heat, stirring all the while, just until mixture starts to boil. Remove saucepan from heat source. Immediately add chocolate chips and crushed peppermint sticks and beat until smooth.

Pour mixture into decorative mugs. Top each mug with chilled topping, and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Tip: Serve with a peppermint stick to add that definitive holiday look.
