How To Plan A Romantic Dinner At Home

September 15, 2009 10:00 AM

Are you overworked and underpaid? Are you feeling tired and stressed out?  When was the last time that you spent quality time with your spouse? Can you recall your last romantic dinner for two?

There is no reason for you to have to wait for that “special occasion” in order to host, yes I said host, in your home, a romantic dinner for you and your better half.plan-romantic-dinner

Skip the “I can’t cook to save my life!” excuse because there is just no such excuse. Even if you think that you are culinary-challenged, you definitely can still host a romantic dinner in you humble abode just for the two of you. Here is the solution: you can either choose to follow easy recipes or you can pick up some of the more difficult creations from a store, take out or restaurant.

The amount of time you spend on the preparation of the dinner is irrelevant- it’s the quality and thoughts that go into the preparation of the evening that count. Here are some straightforward tips to follow:

(1) Make sure that the ONLY two participants in the romantic dinner are your spouse and yourself.

(2) If  babysitting is necessary, arrange for the babysitter to sit at his/her house.

(3) Make sure your dinner plans don’t conflict with anything previously scheduled for your spouse (or yourself for that matter).

(4) Planning a surprise romantic dinner is your call. If you are planning a surprise, light some scented candles in your entranceway in order to give your spouse a hint as to what is awaiting him.

(5) If the romantic dinner will not be a surprise, consider sending your spouse a written invitation. You can either mail the invitation to your spouse, place it on your mate's pillow or leave it in the driver‘s seat of your spouse‘s car. Adding a bouquet of flowers to the invitation might be a great idea!

(6) Be specific with the time and place of the romantic dinner. Creativity is the key!

(7) When setting the table, make sure to use a tablecloth, put out cloth napkins, take out your finest dinnerware that you save for those special occasions, bring out the crystal, light some candles, and last but definitely not least-flowers.

(8) Shower the table with rose petals or glittery heart shaped sprinkles.

(9) Choose your romantic dinner menu. Don’t overdo it, but don't overlook the hors d’oeuvre. Serve foods that your spouse will enjoy. This is not the time to try out new recipes.

(10) If you decided to do the restaurant, store or take-out thing, allow yourself enough time to transfer the food into your ‘romantic’ dinnerware.

(11) Choose the music that you will be playing ahead of time. Soft, romantic music would be a wise choice to play in the background.

(12) Light the room with candles or if you have a fireplace, light the fire to create that  desired dimmed-lights effect.

(13)Turn off all electronic devices such as the television and computer.  Cell phones are a BIG NO-NO.

Good Luck and Enjoy!
