5 Easy Ways to Dress up A Cake

Posted August 27, 2010 11:00 AM |

How many people do you know of that don’t "judge a cake by its cover”? Everyone will run for the cake that looks more inviting. For those of us who are not so handy when it comes to cake decorating, that could be an issue. Well, why not give the following cake-decorating tips a try? They require a minimal amount of work on your part, and it will get everyone to reach for your cake first.

  1. Coat the top and sides of the cake with icing. Using one or more of your favorite cookie cutter shape, gently arrange them on the cake to create the design you would like to create. Carefully pour a small amount of sprinkles within the border of the cookie cutter. Using the back of a spoon, tap the sprinkles into place. Gently lift up the cookie cutter.
  2. Frost the top and sides of the cake. Form patterns ie: rows, circles etc., over the cake, using different color candies, mints or similar items.
  3. Spread a thin layer of frosting over the cake. Create a bouquet out of 3-4 fresh ‘edible’ flowers or those that that are pesticide-free. Wrap the stems in aluminum foil and insert the bouquet into the center of the cake.
  4. To create a present box cake, first coat the cake with a layer of icing. Allow for the icing to dry before laying a wide ribbon across the top of the cake, tucking ends under the cake. Repeat this procedure in the opposite direction. Top it off by either making a bow out of the ribbon or buying a bow and placing it on the centre of the cake where the ribbons meet. Stick the bow on top by dabbing a bit of icing onto the bottom of the bow before placing it on top of the ribbon. ...continue reading

Lip-Smacking Cheesecake

Posted January 15, 2010 11:00 AM |

Both creamy and smooth, a slice (or two) of cheesecake is undoubtedly the most tasty and graceful way to end any meal. Cheesecake is a self-indulgent, mouth-watering dessert which leaves no room for question on why 99.9% of people have a very hard time refusing a piece of cheesecake- unless on a diet of course!

This cheesecake recipe is by far the tastiest I’ve ever gotten my hands on. You can absolutely trust me on that one since I’ve gotten my hands on quite a few! Try this quick and practically effortless new recipe.

Crust:

1 package cinnamon, chocolate or honey Graham crackers
3 oz. butter

Directions:

  1. Blend the Graham crackers into fine crumbs.  Place them in a 9" round pan.
  2. Cut the butter into small pieces.
  3. Place in a pre-heated oven for about 10 minutes or until the butter is melted. Keep an eye on those crackers. If they are left in for even a minute too long, they will burn.
  4. Stir mixture to completely blend crackers with butter.
  5. Press the crackers down evenly onto the bottom of the 9” pan and a bit up the sides of the pan.
