What Expenses You Should Expect Before Grand Opening

Opening a food service business is a big expense and it is important that you prepare for it. Long before you set up your funding and embark on the process of acquiring the things you need, make sure to establish a budget. This will ensure that you do not overspend when you purchase the necessary equipment and will also give you a guideline of what you can expect to need in funding. There are several things that you will have to pay for long before the day your establishment opens its doors for the first time.

Obviously the first thing you will have to be concerned with is the location of your business. This means that you will need to buy/rent a building or have it built from scratch. If you choose the former, then you will most likelty have renovations to do. All of this will cost money and you should make sure to include this in your budget.

If you purchase an old food service building, then you may be fortunate enough to find one that includes much of the equipment that you will need. This could save you quite a bit of money. However, you want to make sure the equipment meets all codes and law requirements. You will also need to purchase anything that was not included in the package. This covers everything from larger equipments such as stoves and coolers to the smaller utensils such as serving spoons.

You want to set a certain mood in your establishment which can be accomplished by purchasing the correct furniture. You may decide to invest in new tables and chairs or you may just want to update the ones that came with the building. You also want to make sure that the décor of the place will be appealing to your customers and match the mood. Condiments, plates, cups, napkins and silverware are often left out of the budgeting plans and are just as important as the rest of the decor in order to get the perfect ambiance.

Another thing you need to plan for is the cost of all required licenses and permits. You may also be required to pay for the inspections that must take place prior to openning your establishment. This is an expense that is not expendable, so make sure to include it in your budgeting plans from day 1. Along with the permits and lincenses, you may need contractors to repair damages or upgrade your establishment to meet the law codes. It is always advisable to keep some funds in case of emergencies.

It isn’t possible to open a food service business without food and beverages. As you establish yourself with vendors, you will have to pay for the items that you order. It is important that you have plenty of food and beverages to sustain your business until you next order. This will require a great amount of money, and will continue to need the money even once your establishemnt is up and running.

You will also find other expenses that will crop up on a daily basis. You will have to have computers for business records and signs for outside your business. Advertising for the opening will cost you money as well. It is also imperative that you pay the staff for their time even before the business opens to the public.
