Great results, and easy to use!
This is an excellent dehydrator. What surprised me most about it is that it's able to dry foods effectively, even when filled to capacity, and lined with parchment paper. I just let it run overnight, and in the morning I have fruit chips! Depending on how thin you slice the foods, it can take anywhere from 6 to 15 hours to dry them.
Even though I've only used it for fruit snacks and drying herbs from my garden, you can also use this dehydrator to preserve vegetables and make jerky.
One suggestion, line your trays with parchment paper. Some foods, like bananas, are very sticky and cleanup becomes so much easier this way. Do not use wax paper - it will melt even at a low temperature, and you will have wax in your food.
The heater and fan on this unit are strong enough that the top tray is kept up to a good temperature. On average, I found the surface temperature of the top tray to only be about 15 degrees lower than that of the bottom tray. I suspect you'd be able to get good results even if you add an additional tray for extra capacity. These are available for purchase separately (https://www.tigerchef.com/dehydrator-4-tray-round---replacement-tray.html).
There have been some questions regarding the operating temperature of this unit. So over the course of using it, I've collected the surface temperature of the trays and provided the approximations below. Keep in mind this will vary depending on the temperature and humidity level in your house.
Material: SAN/AS (acrylonitrile styrene) trays, polycarbonate cover.
Diameter: 12 3/4 inch
Height: 7 inches
Operating temperature: bottom tray 135-155F, top tray 130-145F.
+dries effectively even when covering the trays with parchment paper and filling to capacity.
+simple to use
+power efficient, runs on 250W (which is about the same as a heat bulb)
+the trays are made of high quality food safe plastic
-no temperature adjustment
Fit and Finish: 5/5
+no dents, chips, or cracks in the trays or cover
+no assembly needed ready out of box
+lower cost than comparable units (power, capacity, and materials)
+the materials used in this item are really good for the price - I'm referring to the SAN trays. The lower priced dehydrator's I've seen tend to use lower quality plastics that aren't always food safe. As you shop around, make sure to pay special attention to the materials used in the trays!
