When I received this mill 2 weeks ago, I didn't expect I would be using it every day! Freshly cracked peppercorns give off that amazing aroma, that you just don't get from the pepper shaker. Once you try it, you won't be able to go back.
This pepper mill cracks peppercorns quickly, and with ease. It uses a simple burr grinder mechanism that is easy to use and adjustable.
The grinding mechanism in this mill is made of zinc alloy, which is softer than stainless steel. Even so, I expect it to last a long time for home users. For commercial use, I recommend looking at the Winco Maestro line of pepper mills instead (WPM-12TL) also available on TigerChef. They function similar to this one, except using a carbon steel grinding mechanism which will be far more durable.
To operate the pepper mill, turn the top knob clockwise. For a coarser grind, loosen the lock nut on the top of the know. For a finer grind, tighten it.
This mill is not designed to be used for salt - doing so will corrode the grinding mechanism.
+easy to disassemble for cleaning
+core burr mechanism is made of metal
+no lacquer on the inside of the pepper mill, which is important because it never comes in contact with the peppercorns
-the burrs are made of a zing alloy, which is not as durable as stainless steel
-the lock nut loosens a bit as you operate the grinder. I have to adjust it slightly every use. You can work around this by adding a bit of threadlocker to the lock nut threads (make sure to use the non-permanent kind, like loktite-blue)
Fit and Finish: 5/5
+ready to use out of box
+I inspected the grinding mechanism and found no trace of grease or manufacturing residue
+beautiful walnut finish
-close inspection of the surface shows some lathe marks, but these are hard to see
+amazing value for a 10$ price point
